Yesterday I had the opportunity  to attend the official opening of the new Bay Library at Swansea University’s Bay Campus.

The library was opened by Professor Iwan Davies, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Internationalisation and External Affairs) along with Lewys Aron, President of Swansea University Students’ Union and Robiu Salisu, Education Officer, Swansea University Students’ Union . In his speech, Professor Davies remarked upon the significance of the library being the first building to officially open on the new campus because of the essential services it provides to students and staff and in support of research excellence.

The £10m library will host ISS’ Library, IT Services, SEA (Swansea Employability Academy) and SALT (Swansea Academy of Learning and Teaching) staff, a new Customer Service Team along with the subject teams for Engineering and Management.

The design and layout of the new library looks really impressive offering 600 study spaces.

There are lots more photographs of the new library available here

Steve Williams, Deputy Director of ISS remarked that “from the early days in 2009, the creation and opening of this new library has been a team effort and we owe thanks to staff from across ISS for enabling this to happen through their dedication and professionalism”. Swansea University looks forward to welcoming students to the new library from the 18th September.

And of course, all great occasions are celebrated with cake!
