Introducing the new WHELF Development Officer
I started working in academic libraries in 1997 as a library assistant in the cataloguing department at Reading University. Deciding that librarianship was definitely the career for me I studied for my MA in Information Services Management and qualified in 2000. My first professional post gave me the opportunity to return “home” to Wales to work at Swansea University, initially at the South Wales Miners’ Library and then until 2010 as a Subject Librarian for the Schools of Human Sciences and Business & Economics. After relocating to Pembrokeshire, I had the opportunity to work as a secondary school librarian and more recently I have been working as a freelance editor and indexer of journal articles principally for Proquest.
I am already really enjoying my role as the WHELF Development Officer, the job has tremendous variety and scope due to the range of projects and activities that WHELF engages with. It looks to be a particularly exciting year ahead too for WHELF with the project to procure an all Wales shared Library Management System in HEIs and NHS Libraries.
I work part-time and my usual working pattern is all day Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday morning. I am based at home on Mondays and Wednesdays and can be found on Tuesdays in ISS at Swansea University. I look forward to meeting many of you over the next few months.
