The current WHELF Strategic Plan covers the period 2020-2024. Who could have foreseen the Covid-19 pandemic and the effects this would have on WHELF institutions and their working practices?

On Friday 3 March two strategy planning away days took place simultaneously. In North Wales, Beth Hall (NRW) and Tracey Middleton (Bangor) led the discussions at Bangor University. In the South, colleagues met at USW Cardiff campus, in the wonderful Atrium building. This session was led by Mark Hughes (Cardiff Met – WHELF Chair 2023-25) and Alison Harding (WHELF Chair 2021-2023)

Everyone agreed that it was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with colleagues, and in some cases to meet in person for the first time. The catering at both venues was excellent, with special praise for the chocolate brownies which Bangor delegates enjoyed!

The day was a mix of breakout sessions and whole-group discussion and information sharing. The WHELF Officers now have plenty of notes and ideas which can form the basis for the next WHELF Strategic Plan.
