Welsh Repository Network

The 'Welsh Repository Network' is an ongoing project that has been funded by JISC to create a network of twelve repositories across Wales. In phase one, which ran 2007-2009, each higher education institution within Wales was provided with the resources to purchase repository hardware or a hosted repository system along with support and assistance via the Repositories Support Project enabling them to operate effective institutional repositories. Case studies documenting the hardware choices made by each of the institutions have been published.

Aberystwyth University have recently been awarded funding to undertake the Welsh Repository Network Enhancement Project. This will run 2009-2011 and will build on the earlier work through investigating the potential of a collaborative, centrally managed model to accelerate the development and uptake of repository services by Welsh HEIs. The ongoing project helps to address the Welsh Assembly Government's One Wales objectives in respect of improving institutional efficiency, increasing capacity and encouraging collaboration, but also helps to make a significant contribution to the overall aims and objectives of the JISC Repositories and Preservation Programme.
